So... Deadly Towers. It's an old NES game, and look pretty much anywhere online and you'll see a lot of venom for it. But you know, it wasn't THAT bad.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't good either. It's just that where most people would give it a 1 out of 10, I'd at least give it a 3. Not great, not even average, but you could do much worse.
Like FF8. Yes, you heard me, I'd rather play Deadly Towers than FF8. FF8's not the worst game I've ever played either, but it's probably the most famous terrible game people know of.
But back on topic, Deadly Towers vs. FF8. Little hard to compare the two, but I'll try. FF8's obviously superior in graphics and music. But funny thing is, I think Deadly Towers has a better story. It's about the prince of some kingdom who was told by a spirit to climb some towers and burn some bells. Short, simple, senseless... still better than FF8. At least Prince Myers isn't a whiny or hyperactive asshole.
FF8's story, meanwhile, throws bizarre logic at us. For instance, at the start of the game, you stop Biggs and Wedge from repairing a tower for the Galbadian President to make a speech on TV. Later, you learn that the entire world uses cable to operate communications and TV because of some radio interference that hit the world two decades prior.
Okay.... But all they had to do was fix the tower to get rid of the interference? Why didn't they do that years ago? And besides that, even if they fix the tower, who's going to know to turn on their televisions to watch his speech?
And then there's gameplay. Neither is particularly appealing. But at least in Deadly Towers you get to try to maneuver a guy who controls like a hippo through a swarm of enemies.
In FF8... This still baffles me. The most effective way to play FF8 is to junction all your magic to your stats and never cast a single spell til maybe you get the good spells later in the game. Instead just use your summons. Load up on summon healing items (shouldn't be hard since you get money for walking around) and there you go, that's the most effective way to win fights. The only reason not to use them is because you might not want to sit through a longass animation.
And finally, Deadly Towers doesn't have a stupid card game.
